Scheduled to open in summer 2024, it will invite the public to discover the history of Hendaye, and more broadly the Basque Country, in a fun and interactive way.

Andaye, La Cité des Mémoires – Oroitzapenen Hiria takes you on a journey through 9 rooms, starting with 16th-century witchcraft, then moving on to neo-Basque architecture, smuggling, the great conflicts of the 20th century, gastronomy and, of course, the border and customs.

The proposed collections will feature copies of major works, including Goya, from Versailles, the Grand Palais in Paris, museums in Madrid and London…

Immerse yourself in the captivating history of the Basque Country through 9 rooms dedicated

Andaye (the commune’s 17th-century spelling), the City of Memories – Oroitzapenen Hiria” takes you from the origins of Basque mythology to the opening of the border crossing with the Schengen agreements, via the conflicts on the banks of the Bidassoa.

The site skilfully combines exhibition spaces with copies of major works from Versailles and European museums, and interactive modules to appeal to all audiences.

  • Parking: You can park at the Parking Indigo in Hendaye town center, with one hour’s free parking.
  • The site is accessible to wheelchair users .
  • The tour is available in several languages: French, Basque, English, Spanish, German, Dutch, Italian and Portuguese.
