Opened on July 17, 2024, La Cité des Mémoires – Andaye, Oroitzapenen Hiria takes you on a journey from witchcraft in the 17th century to the great conflicts of the 20th century, via neo-Basque architecture, smuggling, gastronomy and, of course, the border and customs.
The 9 rooms feature numerous interactive modules and varied collections, with copies of major works, including Goya, from Versailles, the Grand Palais in Paris, museums in Madrid and London…

“Andaye (the commune’s 17th-century spelling), the City of Memories – Oroitzapenen Hiria” takes you from the origins of Basque mythology to the opening of the border crossing with the Schengen agreements, via the conflicts on the banks of the Bidassoa.
The site skilfully combines exhibition spaces with copies of major works from Versailles and European museums, and interactive modules to appeal to all audiences.

- Parking: You can park at the Parking Indigo in Hendaye town center, with one hour’s free parking*. Entrance opposite the Cité des Mémoires, with several lift-accessible spaces for people with special needs.
- The site is accessible to wheelchair users .
- The tour is available in several languages: French, Basque, English, Spanish, German, Dutch, Italian and Portuguese.
- Payment methods: bank cheques, cash, vacation vouchers and credit cards.
- For group visits, please please contact us. Bus parking 400 meters away.
