Thierry has often come to tell us about his deep dives on today's ocean ridges, using small submersibles.

In this new lecture, he presents an exceptional geological object: an open-air fossil oceanic ridge in the middle of the desert, 500 km long in the mountains of the Sultanate of Oman.

Having carried out some fifteen field missions on this absolutely fascinating geological object between 1981 and 2009, first with his doctoral students, then with groups of SVT teachers, Thierry will show how dozens of field sections through this fossil ridge enable us to cross the oceanic crust from the surface lavas to the upper mantle, over 15 kilometers deep, passing through the "Moho", that famous fundamental discontinuity between the earth's crust and mantle.
