Through the eyes of photographer Matthieu Berroneau, it looks back at the forest fires that marked France, and more particularly the South-West, during the summer of 2022.

A record year for some, 2022 was marked worldwide by numerous forest fires, devastating natural environments and local infrastructures.

Matthieu Berroneau, a specialist in reptiles and amphibians, visited disaster zones just days after the fires had been extinguished, showing the extent of the damage and the upheaval to biodiversity.

This wildlife photographer's account is a reminder of the societal stakes involved in wildfires: a major risk, the scale of which is strongly impacted by the effects of climate change.
