Bertsularism

Long before it was written, the Basque language had an intensive oral expression, particularly in regards to improvised songs, verses and rhymes known as bertsularitza .

The tradition is remarkably developed in the hostels, cider bars and other places of merrymaking.

Currently taught at schools, bertsularism championships are held, raising it to unprecedented levels of artistic expression.

Amets ARZALLUS, from Hendaye, gave a brilliant performance at the last Basque Country championships in 2010. He finished in 2nd place.
